Suggestions for a Postcard Campaign

Clipboards can make it easier.  You can give each postcard-writer everything s/he needs all together on the board.

This is also an opportunity to give people the double-sided info sheet "We Have a Problem…We Have Solutions" along with a copy of the Action of Immediate Witness.

You can get each person started with an explanation of what your goal is and what s/he needs to do.

What you need:

1. Copies of a flyer with:

            Talking Points

            Addresses of legislators -

both US Senators from your state

the two most likely US Representatives from your state

Rep. Robert Ney and Sen. Trent Lott (see below)

1-800-839-5276 , to call all US Senators and Representatives in Congress

www.uuvv.org , our web site address

Here is a sample flyer, used in Boston, MA.

2. A supply of postcards.  Large index cards from Staples can be used.

3. Put several flyers on each clipboard, so if people want to take one they can.

4. Include each legislator's title such as Senator or Representative.

5. For Rep. Robert Ney and Sen. Trent Lott:

Chairman of the House Adminisratration Committee who has prevented HR2239 from reaching the floor for a vote for over a year.

            Representative Robert Ney

            2438 Rayburn House Office Building.

            Washington, D.C. 20515

Chairman, Senate Rules Committee:

            Senator Trent Lott

            487 Russell Senate Office Building

            Washington, DC 20510

6. Postcard-writers should print their name and address next to their signature.

7. If postcard-writers are not sure who their US Representative is and you don't know either, you can use their address to look it up later at www.vote-smart.org and  fill in the name of their representative for them.
